I think I have enough will power to squash my writer’s block and finish this post. I’ve sadly been working on this post for about a week now, it was suppose to come out last Wednesday, but I’ve neglected it till now. Anyway, lately I’ve been catching up on my NYC Prep episodes, and I’m pretty certain by now that there is no difference between the regular kid and them. They are just more whiny, rude, bitchy, spoiled, and have more dollar signs behind their names. Why do I watch their dramas? Maybe it’s because I don’t make enough drama myself.
So leaving off from The Overachievers, the next episode was Guests of Guests. In this episode it was Fashion Week! (It also so happens that when I went to Manhatten this summer, I got to go to Bryant Park and sit on the beautiful lawn. But unfortunately just five minutes into being in heaven, the guards told us to scat…because it was closing time.) The six of them went to lots of fashion shows. PC befriends Taylor and they start hanging out with each other a lot, which made an over-zealous Jessie a bit too protective and jealous. Speaking of Jessie, it also happens she got two interships with Charlotte Ronson and Carmen Marc Valvo (I also wonder why every famous fashion designer who has the name “Mark” stuck in their name (i.e. Marc Jacobs) have it spelled with a “c” and not a “k”. “C” is obviously too hip for “k”.) So when PC brings an “entourage”, according to Jessie, of people to Carmen MarC Valvo’s show, she gets super pissed and clearly informs PC that he has seriously jeopardized her internship.
Ivy League of Their Own. The synopsis of the next episode after Guests of Guests: PC and Taylor are really buddy, buddy with each other and he takes Taylor everywhere in NYC to supposedly elevate her social status; Camille and Kelli go to Harvard for a tour; PC and Jessie’s friendship is continuing to strain as Jessie is continuously becoming more “over-protective”; Taylor and Cole’s relationship is tearing apart as Cole is being more pushy, while Taylor doesn’t want to spend as much time with him and isn’t returning his texts; Sebastian wants to hook up with Kelli again because he’s done “hooking-up” with Taylor, but Kelli rejects him; PC holds a party at a suite and invites Taylor who later doesn’t show up because she supposedly texted him saying she was grounded. Cole comes unexpectly at PC’s party and gives him a “in-his-face” talk about Taylor.
Now on my thoughts about the “dramas” in these episodes. I have unfortunately not yet seen the latest episode, Charitable to a Fault (hmm…but it does sound like a lot of Jessie drama packed into one.)
PC and Taylor’s buddy relationship. Around the episode of The Virgin Talk, PC spoke with Jessie on doing a “project” on Taylor, the quiet girl who is either really stupid or really smart. In Ivy League of Their Own, PC really takes action and brings Taylor to a candy store and tries to get to know her better. So he concludes: she’s not that stupid once you dig deeper into her. But honestly, what is there to dig in Taylor? We all know that under that reserved personality of hers, she’s going to rise up one day (very soon) and conquer the world with her evil mind and plaque the Upper East Side of Manhatten with Taylor-ism and make everyone in the city talk like a 12 year old using the word “like” every other word. Actually, that’s not going to happen but can’t you see, Taylor is not innocent, I’m mean, she wants to be an elephant trainer (stated in The Virgin Talk) when she grows up. We should at least be a bit cautious about this rather abnormal job goal. Taylor might be using those innocent elephant to maybe plan something bigger.
On a different not though, I have found myself liking the new-found friendship. The two are quite alike. Both are misunderstood to some extent. We have PC on one hand who is thought as “immature” by many people, but is actually a very calm, mature, empathetic person who is the only one making NYC Prep anything worth watching. Then we have Taylor who laconically uses the words that come out of her mouth except “like”, who is quiet, reserved, and shy but according to PC and my brain, she is calculating the detonation of the Taylor Bomb on Manhatten she is a lot smart than we take the 15 year old for. Both at the moment are in some sort of stressful relationship with someone. I am actually very curious and excited about this friendship. The combination of PC and Taylor is unexpected and yet, it’s working because it’s different. However, due to the previews I’ve seen for the next episode, it doesn’t look like PC can take her anymore. He’s probably going to can the friendship in the next episode. Oh well, that just decreases the chance of the Taylor Bomb going off in Manhatten by about 75%. (if that means anything at all. It probably doesn’t mean anything at all. Not to you at least.)
PC and Jessie’s breaking friendship. This just may be the reason why PC is so glad to put so much effort into being Taylor’s friend. I mean, Jessie is losing it. We might as well see her blow up into a million pieces by the season finale. That is not completely impossible. People like Jessie irritate me to no end. I dislike people who are a) overly-obsessive about controlling someone, b) not keen on making new friends, c) saying that PC is doing something wrong even though what he’s doing is the right and kind thing to do. I’m not saying that Jessie is an absolutely horrible person, but I’m saying that I hope she learns to loosen up a lot. I wish she would lose the shielded wall she has whenever she meets new people that aren’t Carmen MarC Valvo, and I wish she would at least try to go to one of the get-togethers with the other five. Because Jessie is making the rumor about her being a big bitch in the “prep school scene” a fact. But she obviously doesn’t care about that.
Cole. UGH, this boy is two word: annoying and pretentious. He was so annoying that when Taylor broke up with him, I smiled and wished she had detonated the Taylor Bomb on him. Taylor, you are too kind for such an evil mastermind. So Cole goes to a party gathering with Taylor in Ivy League of Their Own and the rest of the NYC prepsters are there. He official striked himself out three times at the party, according to me. The first strike was when he made fun of PC and boasted to his feasting pawns how he went to Fashion Week, making himself look all cool and slick, but we all know that this was his first fashion show. Oh, and I haven’t even gone into the “making fun of PC” part. PC was so brotherly to Cole and his feasting pawns but guess what they did, they made fun of him and his eyeliner behind his back. OK, let’s get something straight here, I don’t care if PC is bisexual and wears eyeliner because that’s what makes him 10 times cooler than Cole and his feasting pawns.
Second strike: He forced Taylor to sit with him and talk with Sebastian. If I didn’t know his obvious motives behind the act, I would have thought, “This guy’s an idiot.” Cole has absolutely no respect for Taylor and still tries to act innocent. I felt so bad for Sebastian because he, not surprisingly, looked offended by the act. Taylor didn’t exactly do anything either. She didn’t stand up for herself and say “this isn’t right”. No. In fact, Taylor just sat there looking pathetic while Cole went off on his usual annoying antics. Third and the worst strike: He brought his ex, Denise, and forced Taylor to make peace with her. The scenario forming in Cole’s head would have worked on two regular girls but not on two spoiled, over-glossed girls living in the “prep school scene”. Concluding from this, Cole thinks girls are some kind of advanced species of play toys that he can manipulate at will. He no longer deserves the title of ”idiot” but “douche bag” now. You do not treat your girlfriend like this. And then still try to act innocent after it. I seriously do not understand how Taylor did not drop the Taylor Bomb on him or at least dump him on the spot at the party. What I find even more perplexing is why she ditched Sebastian for Cole. Even though Sebastian is a lady’s man, he’s got more brains than Cole does. And still, Cole came back for more. This last incident should be claimed the time when curiosity killed the cat way before it’s bedtime. The last Cole meteorite came crashing down on the “prep scene” when Cole came uninvited to one of PC’s parties, and complained to PC about how Taylor never talks to him anymore and how she always hangs out with PC. I don’t like saying any more bad things about Cole, seeing as I’ve probably already said too much, but seriously, I mean, come on Cole. Any normal guy would have seen the signs. It’s over. Luckily, Taylor dumped him by the end of the episode.
The “prep school scene”. Whenever I see the six of them saying this phrase, I assume they are talking about a different world. I don’t think New York City has a “prep school scene”, I bet it’s something animatedly made up by the teenagers who attend Manhatten’s private schools and who were so bored with their dollar-signed life, they decided to differenciate themselves from the rest of the teenagers in the world, claiming the “prep school scene” . I also hear that people are saying NYC Prep is not how real prep school kids live. I for one, am not surprised people are criticizing this show anyway. It’s a reality show. Since when in the last decade did we think reality shows were accurate? We all know you can’t find true love through The Bachelor/Bachelorette or Tila Tequila’s Shot at Love. The proof? Flavor Flav is still single after three seasons of Flavor of Love.
Oh, and it’s just been confirmed by the Sebastian Oppenheimer that NYC Prep is coming back for a second season. More NYC Prep. Yum.
